THE GOOD AND BAD THINGS IN SAPA

Tourism makes Sapa change, Sapa is more prosperous, but many lifes must be swapped.
Once someone coming to Sapa will want to be back and stay as long as possible. Many people in Sapa living here is the original Ha Noi people, including Western people drift to the distant land, somehow and even some Western guys open shops and settle  here.

Sapa’s climate is akin Dalat’s, but the scenery and people here look like a different world. The end of April, beginning of May was the worst season of the year of Sapa, terraced fields only have the color of land and water because it has just been transplanted. The scenery completely has nothing as impressive as the picture often seen. However, in return, the Hmong lovely little girls, wearing brocade embroidered with colorful patterns with their hospitality are very impressive.

In winter, in the period before Western New Year, Sapa is incredibly beautiful. Being in the mist of Sapa, two people at a distance of 3 meters might not see each other. Sapa is very cold in winter, night temperatures can drop 0 degrees C, it is frozen stiff when riding along mountainous road, the left is a cliff, the right is a sea of clouds, the bottom is the abyss.

Sapa has 4 seasons in one day. It is slightly cold in the morning with temperatures around 12-18 degrees, cold enough to take a stroll but driving motorbike is indescribably cold. By noon, it is sunny and warm, just need a coat or tight-necked sweater. Before stepping into the restaurant, it is interesting when dew is so thin that we can’t see another’s face. However, after the meal, when come out, it is sunny, but fog covers the road rapidly.
Sapa's appearance today is unchanged, still the main street is crowded with tourists, more hotels spring up, hotel services are better. But after many years of tourism exploitation, many things have changed, and will continue to change as crucial principle of life.
Completely unlike towns and villages in the northeast and northwest, tourism has changed the life and people here. Right in the center of town, you will see many Black H'Mong and Red Dao pass by, but the majority is almost all hotels, restaurants, houses of this town belong to Kinh people. A very small number of them are owned by the West people loving habitat here and settling to earn by Western restaurants or bars.
Hmong girls here are mostly talk and communicate in English quite well, even the old woman can also communicate and purchase with foreign travelers comfortably. The images are often seen: an old woman is completely wrapped up in embroidering, every now and then looks up and invites guests "two dollas" with a beautiful brocade bag, or talk "one dollar one photo" to visitors wanting to take a photo with her. The most fun thing is that she gives the phone out to relentlessly speak in ethnic minority languages with someone. In addition, you can also meet a Red Dao girl selling at square church answering the phone by her iPhone.

These things sometimes are good, life of these people has improved much. On the other hand, paying for taking photos and selling with high prices are obviously resulted from tourism which make them change. Sapa is now filled with souvenirs of China, brocade bags or even straps are sewed by machine and transported from China, only a few are handmade.

Souvenir in Sapa

On the streets of Sapa, sometimes there are some hybrid babies whose their mothers are ethnic people and their fathers are Western people and of course their fathers run away. Tourism makes Sapa more prosperous, but many lifes must be swapped. And just the people here truly understood the cost.
However, many tourists still love Sapa because of its good things. In the main rice season near to harvests, Sapa’s surrounding scenery is very beautiful. Love most the tranquility feeling of sipping coffee at a cafe in the main street, ẹnoying views of wandering visitors, bustling Mong, Dao solicit buyers for their products. The feeling of sitting in a restaurant overlooking the cliffs seems the clouds are about to touch us. Love the feeling of walking at night on small town of Sapa, there are many selections, or dropping on a little “pub” beside fireplace and listening to Beatles music, or getting into a club to spit beer, rumbling on the music ground of DJ ...
